Dec-02: We will hold an extra, evening lab session next week, on Tuesday, December 06, from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. This final project must be completed during our ultimate lab session next Friday, so this evening lab sessions is a good opportunity to make progress with whatever difficulties remain in your processors. Keep in mind that this extra lab session will be of greatest value to your group if you have done as much as possible to combine the components and test them.
Additionally, I must note with regret that a number of your failed to appear at today's lab. For those who are ill, the absence was necessary; for others, however, your absence is unfair to the other members of your group. There were components whose function was unknown to those present, limiting their ability to make progress with other, related components. There is not enough time remaining for this project to leave your group unable to progress consistently, if not rapidly.
Dec-01: Since you must complete the final project by next Friday, our time in the lab is becoming critical. Therefore, I will be available, in the lab, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm for our final two lab sessions. If you are available during these extended lab hours, I will be there to answer questions and assist your efforts. If there is a desire for an evening lab session next week (Tuesday or Wednesday), I am open to the possibility of scheduling this additional lab time if enough of you request it. Let me know your thoughts on the matter.
Nov-15: Here are the solutions to the mid-term exam. Read through the answers and the discussions, and let me know if you have any questions.
Nov-15: New wire has arrived -- one dozen spools of it. It is sitting in the lab, waiting for you to use it. New wirecutters did not arrive, but should be here in a couple of days. This seems like a good time to remind everyone: When you attach multiple ETS-7000 units, each of which has its own power supply, be sure to connect the grounds, but not to the power channels. That is, each board should be connected to exactly one power source, but all of your connected boards should share ground connections.
Oct-21: Note that I have fixed the due-date for Lab 5, which had not been sane. It is now Monday, Oct-24, 11:59 pm.
Oct-12: Grab the sample mid-term exam now available on the Documents page. The primary purpose of this sample is for you to see what kinds of paper-and-pen questions the exam may contain. It may also be used as a non-comprehensive study guide, since it clearly addresses some, but not all, of the topics that we have covered thus far.
Please also note that:
Friday's lab will be in Seeley Mudd 014, the computer classroom across the call from our usual lab in SMudd 006.
Monday, Oct-17, we will have a mid-term exam study session at 8:00 pm in the usual lab (SMudd 006).
Wednesday, Oct-19, we will have our mid-term exam during our usual class time, 11:00 am to 11:50 am.
Oct-07: We will have lab as usual today in Seeley Mudd 006. We have covered enough new material that I want not to overwhelm you with more this week. Moreover, this lab provides you the ideal opportunity to ask questions and solidfy your understanding of Lab 4 (the multiplier). Be there, and be ready to make some serious progress.
Sep-07: Be sure to check the Assignments regularly. I have posted the first reading for this coming Friday; heretofore, though, I will not post an announcement for every assignment.
Jul-19: Welcome! Regular announcements, including information about problem sets, projects, class preparation, cancellations, and just about anything else will be provided here. Check this space daily (at the least) to see if any new announcements have been posted. Prior to the first class at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 7th, you must read the Course Information.
